However, on the fringes of the Festival, at the same time, there is "The Off" Festival. Many French and international theatre companies perform their shows on some 100 places in Avignon in front of theatre-lovers. The organisation of The Off is completely separate from the Avignon Festival. There is not a single artistic direction but one association of the Off providing services and orientation to performers and visitors (professional contacts, venue addresses, publication and distribution of their programme, etc…).

FESTIVAL YOUTH CENTRE
From the Festival's beginnings, a great deal of thought has gone in to accommodating young people in Avignon. In the 1950s the "Rencontres Internationales" started to be developed and. their organisation and management taken by CEMEA (Training Centre for learning through active methods).
In 1965 an association, the "Centres de Jeunes et de Séjour du Festival d'Avignon" was created. It consists of three founding partners: the Avignon Festival, the City of Avignon and CEMEA.
This organisation proposes cultural trips from 4 to 10 days for teenagers from 14 to 17 years old and for adults. Reception is organised in schools. All the trips offer artistic initiation activities, meetings with artists and performing arts professional as well as special admission conditions for the shows.
To find out more or to subscribe to one of the cultural programmes, contact CEMEA
