We have to think of our relationship with the public as a major social act.” Ever since his appointment as director of the Festival d’Avignon, Olivier Py has placed the relationship with the public at the centre of his mission. The Festival, he says, should allow “everyone, insiders and outsiders alike, to enter into a dialogue and show that culture is an intrinsic part of “the organisation of a better society.” Finding its expression in many different projects, this philosophy has allowed the Festival to dramatically increase its action by inviting its public to take part in new creative dynamics of cultural and social relationships, which encourage all to think critically through participative experiences.
